ITLS Basic Trauma

2016 - This program includes a new 8th edition ITLS manual. Candidates MUST have an 8th edition manual for this program.

This two-day course introduces the knowledge and skills required to evaluate and stabilize the trauma patient. ITLS addresses the critical time management of these patients. This is accomplished through instruction and hands-on sessions focusing on rapid assessment and emergency care interventions. The course is designed for two levels of health care practitioners.

Basic level:

Practitioners with should have current registration such as a health care professional including Emergency Medical Responders, Licensed Practical Nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians, and military levels QL3-5.

The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:

  • Current registration as a health care professional (EMR/EMT/LPN/Military QL3-5)preferred. Any First Responder candidate is welcome to attend.
  • Completion of the pre-course assignment that will come with course materials. This assignment takes approx. 2 hrs however will depend on the learner.


The ITLS Course is to prepare emergency health care providers to knowledgeably and skillfully perform the rapid assessment, resuscitation, packaging, stabilization and transport of the trauma patient. The course includes lectures and interactive skill stations to provide for the application and integration of knowledge and skills to case based scenarios. Prior study of the text is required.
