Fundamentals of Instruction

This course is the pre-requisite for Candidates wishing to start the instructor Pathway for becoming a Red Cross Psychological First Aid Instructor or individuals that have been directed by the Canadian Red Cross to attend this course.

** this course does not include any skills evaluations, discipline specific or teach experience components required for the Red Cross First Aid Instructor Program.

  • Instructional techniques
  • The Learner
  • Lesson Planning


Online: 8 hrs, self paced Classroom: 14.5 hrs


The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:

  • - Psychological First Aid Instructor Pathway - pre-requisite will be that this individual is 18 Years of age and holds a current Psychological First Aid Certification.
  • - Other candidates not in the above but have been instructed by Red Cross to attend this course will need to provide written proof upon registering.


Fundamentals of Instruction. Online: 8 hrs, self paced Classroom: 14.5 hrs
Consists of both an online and a classroom component, where they apply the fundamentals of instruction alongside of an Instructor Trainer. This segment of their development will focus on the role of an Instructor (using a learner centered approach to first aid education) and considers both educational
