First Aid Instructor Recert

This 2017-2020 Red Cross First Aid Instructor Recertification course is a classroom-based learning experience where Instructors will further their role in providing participants with a meaningful first aid learning experience.

*** This Recertification in NOT an Update for the 2017 program. All currently instructors are required to ensure their certification remains current. Red Cross will notify all current instructors of the transition/update process when it becomes available. ****

hdgPrerequisites

The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:

  • *** It is the responsibility of all Red Cross FAI's to know and understand what the requirements are for recertification. They are found in the National Program Standards. The following must be brought to the FAIR workshop. Any candidate that does not meet these requirements on the day of the workshop will forfeit all registration fees.
  • 1. Proof of current Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification
  • 2a. ALBERTA FAI's: In accordance with AB legislation each FAI must have taught 2 workplaces approved Canadian Red Cross courses (EFA, SFA or SFAR) per EACH CERTIFICATION YEAR. If the FAI has not taught the required courses, please contact your Red Cross Program Rep as you are not able to recertify.
  • 2b. FAI's TEACHING OUTSIDE AB: FAI has taught a minimum of three Canadian Red Cross First Aid courses during the three-year period. One of the courses must be Standard First Aid, Standard Child Care First Aid, or Marine Basic First Aid since obtaining the Instructor certification or recertification.
  • 2.c EXPIRED FAI's still within the 1 year grace period: Must meet the requirements above for the province they are wishing to recertify. If you do not meet this requirement, please contact your Red Cross Program Rep at 1-877-356-3226 for options.

The course will focus on learning activities that reflect the Educational Philosophy of the Canadian Red Cross First Aid Programs. The corse follows a learner-centered approach and provides an opportunity for Instructor to demonstrate competence in their role.


Completion Criteria:
1. Successfully completed the pre-course assignment - this assignment will be emailed one week prior to the course date.
2. Successfully demonstrated selected discipline-specific clinical skills.
3. Adhere to the Canadian Red Cross Standards or Behaviour and the group charter.
4. Attend and participate in 100% of the course (i.e.: was present and actively provided focused contributions at all scheduled sessions)

Upon successful completion of this program you will have earned the following tickets:

  • Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor Certification that is valid for 3 years.
