Emergency First Aid with Basic Life Support (BLS)/AED or Recertification

This Red Cross one day in class program is for Heath Care Professionals offering an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Meets OHS regulations for Basic First Aid.

This course involves a mandatory 4 hour learning component that must be completed prior to the in class component of this program.

The following items are covered in this Emergency First Aid with Basic Life Support (BLS)/AED or Recertification class:

  • The Red Cross
  • Preparing to Respond
  • The Emergency Medical Services System
  • Check, Call, Care
  • Airway Emergencies
  • Breathing and Circulation Emergencies
  • Respiratory and Cardiac Arrest (including CPR HCP)
  • How to use an Automated External Defibrillator - AED
  • Wound Care
  • Any other content required by specific legislation.Perform a rapid assessment
  • Initiate the emergency response system
  • Perform BLS skills
  • Perform rapid defibrillation

hdgPrerequisites

The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:

  • Completion of the online component prior to the in class date is mandatory. Students arriving without this completed will not be permitted into the class and will forfeit all course fees.
  • Must be entering industry or are currently employed as a Health Care Provider.
  • Recertification at this level of training include attending the full course again.

Our Instructors are front-line professionals who tailor teaching based on participants’ learning styles and training needs. Dynamic teaching techniques: skills demonstrations, practice sessions, scenarios based on real-life situations, discussions, and exercises. Hands-on training using real materials: mannequins for practising CPR, AED trainers, bandages and splinting materials, auto-injector trainers, inhalers, and additional aids.

BLS CPR is an important step in the survival of a person who suffers a cardiac arrest incident. This course is designed for those that will work in a team response such as EMS, Fire, Nurses etc.

BLS education helps individuals gain confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills and provides them with the important steps to work as a team.

hdgCertifications Earned

Upon successful completion of this program you will have earned the following tickets:

  • Red Cross Emergency First Aid with CPR level C valid for 3 years.
  • Red Cross Basic Life Support valid for 12 months.
