Heart and Stroke - Basic Life Support (BLS/HCP) Renewal

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Renewal is a fast-paced course designed for experienced healthcare providers who are routinely called on to apply their resuscitation skills. Delivered entirely in the classroom, it covers single-rescuer and multi-rescuer basic life support skills for prehospital and in-facility environments, focusing on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) Renewal class:
  • Chain of Survival
  • 1 - rescuer / 2 rescuer CPR
  • High-quality chest compressions with a feedback device
  • Multi-rescuer team CPR
  • Adult, Child and Infant CPR and relief of choking
  • Use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device and bag-mask device
  • Expanded: Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies
  • New: Role of the CPR coach; Maternal cardiac arrest; Anaphylaxis; Drowning; Heart attack and stroke; and, Other life-threatening emergencies

The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:

  • Current Heart & Stroke BLS Provider certification
  • - OR -
  • Heart & Stroke BLS Renewal Prerequisite Challenge Certificate
  • Recommended that students bring their book from previous class. Books are available for purchase at $25 + GST


The BLS Renewal course assumes comprehensive awareness, knowledge, and skill proficiency in Heart & Stroke BLS concepts. This fast-paced course is for students who are confident in their BLS skills, use their skills regularly, require limited practice and who already possess a valid Heart & Stroke BLS certificate to renew their credentials for another year.

Upon successful completion of this program you will have earned the following tickets:

  • Heart and Stroke Foundation issues a one year BLS Certification via e-card to all successful candidates.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation has implemented a three (3) person minimum per course in order for courses to run. In the event of only two people present at the start of the program, AHASTI is required to cancel the course and reschedule candidates without exception.
