Alberta Ambulance Operator Course

The goal of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to operate their emergency vehicle. The focus is on the safety of the vehicle, equipment, crew, and patients so they will be delivered safely and efficiently. The safety of the public will be emphasized during all phases of the delivery of course involving the ambulance.


The following items are covered in this Alberta Ambulance Operator Course class:

  • The Emergency Vehicle Operator Course is a training program that can be used in a variety of settings and organizations to meet emergency vehicle operator training needs. The course consists of three training sections:
  • 1.Classroom Based Theory
  • 2.Driving Course Practice Exercises
  • 3.Simulator Training


40 hours


The following are the prerequisite that a student is required to have before being allowed into this course:

  • Alberta Class 5 driver's license (no GDL) or higher/equivalent


This course was developed to provide Emergency Responders with the necessary tools and information to safely operate emergency vehicles. Emergency responders have to be effective at controlling their driving environment in all situations and conditions without compromising the safety of their patient, their partner or other road users.

This course is best suited for those entering the emergency medical services industry. Those with an Alberta driver's license may qualify for demerit reduction through Alberta Transportation.
